Women’s Committee Report to Membership

November 2008

Thank You

Your Local 730 Women’s Committee has been busy this past year.  We hosted two basketball games and a Tigers baseball game.  A great time was had by all that joined us.  Some photos of these events are included.

We would like to thank the many coworkers that supported us in two recent fundraisers.  First of all in September we held a 50/25/25 raffle.  Meaning 50% of the money raised ($200) went to Our Lady of Hope Women’s Shelter for their Christmas party.  The other $200 ($100 each) went to the following raffle winners:

Don Lazzaro, 2nd shift hi lo driver

Cheryl James, retiree

Breast Cancer Walk

October 18 we participated in the Breast Cancer Walk held in downtown Grand Rapids.  Thanks to our members, a total of $1161 was collected and donated to this worthy cause.  The following members participated in the walk:

Theresa Brown

Kathy Challenger

Tonya Coleman

Joyce Gates

Sandy Houck

Sylvia Lillard

Chris Schweitzer

Amber Walker

Janet Walker

So thanks to all that gave so generously when approached by our walkers for a donation.

Donation of Socks

By the time you read this, we will have completed one more project for the year.  We will be giving 300 pair of new American made socks to the Veterans’ Home in Grand Rapids for Christmas.  We have done this in the past, and they are always so appreciative.  Thanks to Mieras Shoes for working with us and giving us a good deal on the purchase of socks.  Please patronize them; they’re good people.

Detroit Pistons vs New Orlean Hornets

Our Women’s Committee is sponsoring another bus trip for Saturday, January 17th. The game starts at 7:30 pm and tickets are $85.  Come ride the bus with us.  Bring your cooler, sit back, and enjoy the ride.  Snacks and movies provided for the ride.

In solidarity,

Sandy Houck, Chair
