Teeters Tidbits

Local 730, UAW Retiree Chapter

By Harold Teeter, Trustee

Here we are again, flying right into the month of December.  By the time you see this article, Thanksgiving will have passed.  All that will be left is the moaning and groaning over eating too much.  You will have a month to work it off before Christmas and New Years gets here.  I hope I saw a lot of you at the Thanksgiving potluck.  We didn’t have donuts this time, but I’m sure we had plenty of good food.

October 19th – The Annual UAW Region 1D Retirees Excellence Award dinner was held at which a male and female retiree from the area are selected by their volunteer work thru community programs such as Citizens for a Better Cause, (which is a group of people who police nursing homes), God’s Kitchen, Meals On Wheels, Senior Meals, Veterans Home, and more.  Local 730 has had eight winners for this award since its inception 19 years ago.  They are Ed Tilma, Elsie DeBoer, Harold Teeter, Dwight Jamison, John Hyatt, Glenn Robinson, Tom Moorman and for this year – Tom Williams.  How about a big hand for these hardworking retirees.

October 25th - We had a very good turn out at our October retirees meeting.  There were over 150 retirees and their spouses in attendance.  Our Benefit Reps covered a lot of information regarding the new contract and then answered questions that many were concerned about.

Negotiations

It looks like the Big Three negotiations are over without any lengthy strikes.  I hope that might be a boost to the economy.  We retirees didn’t get hurt too much.  We got an increase in pension and will be receiving the Christmas bonus, (including surviving spouses), by the end of the year.  Included in this issue is a benefit report that covers additional information.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

December 6 (Thursday) – Christmas Dinner

I hope you made the reservation deadline (11-15-07) so you can be with us again for this wonderful dinner and fellowship.  And for those who do have their reservations in, we’re looking forward to seeing you at Saint Mary’s Visitation Hall.  You don’t have to bring anything, but a ticket and an appetite.  Come early so you can visit with your friends before dinner.

December 9 (Sunday) – Christmas Party at Studio 28

For those of you who registered and are planning on attending the Christmas party, please be guided by the following for which show to attend.  If your last name begins with:  A-K  3:30 and L-Z  12:00.  The movie this year is Fred Claus with Vince Vaughn and Paul Giamatti.

December 14 (Friday) – Cap Drawing at Region 1D (7 p.m.)

If you still have your Cap Dollar Drive tickets you received in June, they need to be turned in as soon as possible so they can be processed and ready for the drawing December 14th.

Friendly reminder – the union hall office will be closed Saturday, December 22, 2007 thru Tuesday, January 1, 2008.

I’d also like to remind all of our retirees who will be heading out for warmer climates, to please drive safely and have a wonderful winter vacation.  We will be thinking of you.

Please say your prayers for our sick and the families of our deceased:  Diane Carter 10-31-07, John Klekotka 9-27-07, Theodore Luce 10-6-07, James Mayberry 10-14-07, Peter Rencis 10-18-07, and Jerome H. Weber 10-10-07

We would really like to see our newly retired members at our meetings.  There’s always a Benefit Rep here to report out and answer questions and concerns.  And there’s always plenty of room, coffee, and donuts.
