UAW Local 730 Picnic June 17, 2006
At 7:30 a.m. Saturday, June 17, the sky was clear and it was 77 degrees as I drove to Grand Rapids. At Douglas Walker Park, a group of Local 730 members were working to set up the park for the Local picnic that was scheduled to begin at noon. Bingo was being held in the shelter where coffee and donuts were available. There were two drawings held – one at 1:30 and one at 4:30 p.m. with prizes totaling over $5000. All gifts given were U.S. made. This year we received donations from Classic Chevrolet, Todd Wenzel Pontiac, Harvey Cadillac, and Rivertown Credit Union (Stampers) Chris Lavallee was our DJ and played for four hours on and off while games for kids and adults were taking place. (Like the egg toss). Hot dogs, hamburgers, and chicken were being grilled at the other end of the park. Winners of the horseshoe tournament were: 1st Place: Gerri and Chuck Suchecki 2nd Place: Emmanuel Zamarripa and Al Zamarripa Jr A good time was had by all. As I drove home at 9:30, it was still 88 degrees….and still no rain that was forecast for the day. I would like to thank all the volunteers – without you, we would not have a picnic. See you next year! Mark your calendars for: Sunday, December 10, 2006 Christmas Party Saturday, June 16, 2007 Picnic Local 730 Recreation Committee John Peterman, Chair Ken Alksnis, Brenda Brott, Cornell Duncan, Greg Golembiewski, Lamar Reevers, George Semposki, and Jackie Valdez
