Local 730 Accepts Three Awards

Each year at the Michigan Labor Press Training Conference held at Black Lake, a Publication contest is held.  I am very proud to share with you the following awards earned by Local 730 and a big thank you to our Editor Jeff Downing and members of our Publication Committee for the great job they do every month.

 

1st Place – Best Editorial

Won by Rick Metiva for a two part article published in the September and October 2006 issues.

 

2nd Place – Best Photo Collage

Jeff Downing won this award for the photo collage  he put together of the Local 730 picnic.

 

3rd Place – Best Photo

Jim Wodarek won this award for a photo he took.

 

Community Service Committee Raffle

The Community Service Committee will be holding a raffle during the months of May and June with winners to be drawn at the Local 730 Picnic June 16.  Prizes will include an American made grill and a $25 gift card.

 

Women’s Committee Bus Trip Saturday, June 30

Our Women’s Committee has a bus trip planned to see the Detroit Tigers play the Minnesota Twins.  Tickets are $45 and include your game ticket, transportation, and munchies on the bus.  Tickets are random seats in Section 338.  See any Women’s Committee member for tickets and information.

 

Black Lake Campground Applications

Applications are now available at the union hall.  The campground season runs from June 15 through September 16.

 

Grand Valley Labor News Increase

Recently there has been an increase of five cents per issue for our Grand Valley Labor News subscription that is mailed to all our active and retired members.  This price increase is the first in over five years.

As you can see there’s a lot happening in the next few weeks/months.  Please mark your calendar for upcoming events.

 

Thursday, May 24

Veterans Breakfast 5:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Veterans with a UAW Veterans Card will eat free.  A $5 donation is being requested for all others.  Menu includes: Scrambled eggs, hash browns, toast, bagels, French toast, bacon, sausage, fruit, assorted juices, and coffee.

 

Saturday, June 16

Local 730 Picnic – All Local 730 UAW active and retired members are invited to attend.

Time:  12 Noon to 5 p.m.

Location:  Douglas Walker Park

 

Tuesday, June 19

Membership Meetings

7:15 am, 12 Noon, 3:30 pm, 7:30 pm, and 11:15 pm
