Elections

We’ve finally completed our local union elections.  These seem to drag on for much longer than any of us would like…with runoff elections, et cetera.  You, the membership, are to be applauded for your turnout at the polls.

We have many new people in different positions within our Local.  Each one of them will be in continuous need of your help, support, and understanding.  I believe we have elected some quality people that have produced an overall mixture of experience, enthusiasm, and determination.  With this blend of union officials, I feel confident that we will be the cohesive leadership that you want to take us forward.

I would also like to thank those officials that either decided not to seek re-election or were not re-elected.  Many of these people are good union members that gave many years of service to our local union.  I would like to encourage them to continue to be active union members.  We can only become a stronger local with their positive input and support.

 Plant

With our plant production requirements being decreased, we are facing layoffs, and even though it is a beautiful time of the year to be outside of the plant, we cannot be encouraged by the trend that our domestic auto industry is experiencing.  The uncertainties being experienced by some of our lesser seniority members are increasing as our plant population continues to decrease.  I wish I had some encouraging news, but as of this writing, our immediate employment picture is not clear and what we do know is not positive.  We have to “hang tough” and hope sales increase so that we can reverse our declining employment trend.
