Rally Supporting American Axle Workers

Thanks to all our members that could make the rally last week either by bus or driving.  Local 2093 members continued to say throughout the day how much they appreciated all the support and food we were able to bring them thanks to the generosity of our members.  It definitely lifted their spirits.  We had about 35 members from our Local joining the fight with our brothers and sisters in Three Rivers:  Gilbert Arambula, Pam Artis, Bill Bruinsma, Leon Chase, Mike Cook, Walt Cummings, Greg Golembiewski, Marty Green, Jason Groot, Jennifer Hampton, Janet Harris, Andra Jackson, Curt Jenison, Lee Johns, David Karel, Rocky Love, Mike Mansfield, Larry Palmer, Mark Presler, Steve Rop, Maria Ruiz, Sharon Sanders, Duane Sprague, Angie Vanarnam, and Luanne VanderLaan.

I would like to thank Glenn Kade, past president of Local 1231 and recently retired from our plant, for the donation of tee shirts to our Local.  We in turn donated them to Local 2093.

Jefferson-Jackson Day 2008 Celebration April 6

I attended this event held in Detroit at Cobo Hall, which is the largest fundraiser of the democratic party in Michigan.  The keynote speaker this year was the Honorable Brian Schweitzer, Governor of Montana.  He is known for his work revitalizing Montana’s economy.  He spoke of his passion for clean and renewable energy, and his belief that every family in every community deserves an opportunity.  It was an honor to hear him speak, and I know we will all hear more of him and his work in the future.

As always, as part of the program, there were a few awards presented to precinct delegates and senior citizens from each district for the year, along with a few other very special awards.  One being the Martin Luther King Jr. Freedom Award honoring an individual for his or her work to promote equality and inclusion of all people from every race, creed, and gender in the democratic party.  The winner of this award was our very own Dorothy Scott, Local 1231 retiree from the Cap office.  Dorothy is so very deserving of this award.   Thank you and congratulations.

Scholarship Recipients

Thanks to all who applied for the Local 730, UAW Active and Retired Members Scholarships; there were 16 applicants this year.  The two winners for the 2008 Scholarships are:  Brandi Tiemeyer (granddaughter of Bryan Hobrow) and Tyler Veneman (son of Benefit Rep Lauri Veneman).  Congratulations and best of luck to you!
