I would like to
welcome all of our new members and invite you to attend your union meeting
the third Tuesday of the month at
7:30 a.m., 12 noon,
3:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., or
11:15 p.m.
at 3852
Buchanan Ave SW.
We have many
different events during the year. Please watch the auto view, bulletin
boards, or TV monitors for upcoming events.
October is Breast
Cancer Awareness Month
Women in their 20’s
and 30’s should have a clinical breast exam at least every three years and
every year for women 40 and older.
Life Steps will be in
the plant in October with information and cancer facts for women and men.
Yes, there are tests for our men too. Make sure to make your appointment
and keep it. That’s something we should not put off until tomorrow, or two,
or three years.
Labor Day
I would like to thank
the chairperson of the Labor Day Committee – our own Greg Golembiewski from
730. He worked so hard to make sure everything went well and it did. I
heard nothing but positive feedback except for the long line for the food,
and I know that will be better next year. Again, thank you to:
·
Director
Don Oetman
·
Assistant
Director Mike Bieber
·
The
secretaries (at Regional and Local 730)
·
Bruce
Gravelin for the great photos he got.
·
All the
volunteers that made it such a fun and educational day for all of us.
Communication Workers
of America
has the only
unionized wireless company – Cingular. You can check it out at
wwwCingularSwitch.com for information about making the switch to the company
that cares about workers’ rights or to register for follow-up information if
you are still under contract to another carrier.
Some 40,000 Cingular
workers are represented by CWA and work under union contracts providing
regular wage increases, good benefits, and a voice on the job. Sound
familiar?

More Good
Union
Made News
All King Louie
American products will be union made in the
USA.
On March 22, 2006 King Louie went up for sale. The domestic operation was
immediately snapped up by Michael Lerner, son of Mouis Leaner, who
co-founded King Louie in 1937. Company officials have assured the union
that employees will not experience any reduction in wages or benefits as a
result of the transition.
Help Needed
Now through November
7th we are needed to help on the election. Local 730’s day is
Monday and the time is
7 to 9 p.m. at the
CAP office to phone bank. We are also needed to do lit drops for candidates
every Saturday through the election. So if you can help in any way, please
stop by the CAP office at 4330
Stafford
(Local 19) or the Dem Headquarters at
909 Cherry Street.
Cap Tickets
All leadership is
selling Cap tickets, so if you’d like a chance to win $10,000 or if you
would like to help support candidates that support us, stop your
committeeperson or anyone in leadership and they’ll be glad to sell you a
ticket or a book for $10.
