President’s Report by Barb Henderson

November 2006

OPEN HOUSE

Thank you to all who volunteered.  A special thank you to our drivers, who were extra cautious and patient with our visitors.  What would we ever do without our retirees?  Without whom this event would not have been possible.

THE ELECTION

I just want to tell everyone how proud I am of our local.  Throughout the campaign, we went to union households to talk about the election and how important it is to get out there on Election Day and exercise our rights.  Even though Election Day was a paid day off, many of our members worked all day on the election.  Some as early as 6:30 a.m. until 8 p.m.  When I walked into the CAP Headquarters, it looked like a 730 union meeting.  Thank you to all of our members that took the time to vote, and we sure can’t forget the tireless efforts of our retirees.  They know how important elections are, and that’s why they are always at the forefront when anything needs to be done for our union.

CONGRATULATIONS

·        Tom Williams is a Local 730 retiree and was nominated for the Retirees’ Excellence Award.  Tom works very hard and is very dedicated to his wife of 40 years, his family, church, community, and his Region 1D and Local 730 Retirees Chapter.

·        Best of luck to all our newly retired members and don’t forget to pick up your bible and the retirees’ monthly meeting.

·        Congratulations to our new Alternate Benefit Rep Tom Zoppa.  He is also very dedicated.  Shop Chairman Steve Rop and I know he will do a great job, just like all of our other hardworking Benefit Reps and Alternates.

CAP DOLLAR DRIVE

We will accept CAP Dollar Drive tickets through the end of this week.  (As of Monday, November 27, tickets will need to be turned in directly to Region 1D.)  Local’s CAP drawing will be held at the Tuesday, December 19 membership meeting and the Region 1D drawing will be held Friday, December 8.

Please plan on arriving 30 minutes prior to the start of the show.  This year’s admission ticket to the Christmas party will be a can of food or non-perishable item per person.

COMMUNITY SERVICES – GIVING TREE

Again we are asking members to support this worthy cause.  Tags for the Salvation Army Giving Tree project will soon be appearing on Christmas trees located by the front lobby, cafeteria, and communication center.  Tags and gifts must be wrapped and returned to the boxes by the cafeteria and escalator by Monday December 4th.  (Delivery is set for Saturday, December 9th.)
