  Standing  Committee Reports

President’s Report by Barb Henderson

February 18, 2008

Congratulations!

Dallas Dean, who was appointed last year by Governor Granholm to the Board of Department of Human Services, was just elected within the Board to Vice Chairman.  Again, congratulations Dallas.  I just don’t know how you find the time to do all the many things you do, and do them all so well.

Thank You to Volunteers

A big thank you to the following active and retired members, and spouses who volunteered to help at the Foreclosure Seminar held in Grand Rapids February 14:

Michelle Carney, Richard Erdman, Rick Hamilton, Rick Hamilton Jr., Janet Harris, Tony Hinojosa, Eilleen Hurley, Flora Hyatt, Rocky Love, Tim Richards, Maria Ruiz, Sharon Sanders, Evelyn Shreve, Luanne VanderLaan, Diane Visser, Louise Williams, Tom Williams, and Cheryl Wright

White Shirt Day

I’d like to thank everyone who participated by wearing a white shirt February 12 in honor of the Sit Down Strike.

Giants Award

I would like to congratulate all of the Giant Award recipients, but especially our very own Local 730 member – Bennette Gay, who received the Martha Reynolds Labor Award January 26.

For nearly two decades while working full time at General Motors, Bennette made a huge commitment to his community and its children by coaching basketball through area high schools (Central, Union, and Creston).   He served as a mentor, an advisor, and a father, as well as working with high school counselors and college coaches to help guide these young people in furthering their education.
