Local 730 Member Theresa Brown Honored for Volunteer Service
Theresa Brown first became a licensed foster parent to care for her young granddaughter. After her granddaughter returned to her own home, Theresa opened her door, arms, and heart to other children who had been removed from their homes. While raising her own three children on her own, Catholic Social Services placed 15 children in her home over the years, including some teen mothers with their share of behavioral, academic, and social challenges. Theresa said, “I learned from and with each foster child. The bottom line is to show them love. With love, we can conquer any task”. Theresa was presented the President’s Volunteer Service Award for her willingness to help bring nurturing and stability into the lives of children removed from their homes because of abuse and neglect. Michael W. Smith, celebrated Christian recording artist and Vice Chair of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, presented the award during his recent concert in Grand Rapids April 26. The President’s Volunteer Service Award program was created as a way to thank and honor Americans, who by their commitment and example inspire others to engage in volunteer service. Theresa is now retired from the Grand Rapids Metal Plant after 30 years of service and is truly an inspiration to others. Thank you Theresa!
