The Election Committee would like to share the following job descriptions with members who may be considering running for the upcoming election.

PRESIDENT

Will preside at all union meetings, sign all checks and vouchers, enforce through the Executive Board the UAW Constitution, appoint committee chairpersons, will make recommendations for all Local and  Internationally Appointed positions, and conduct or preside over all administrative jobs relative to the Local Union.  All communications coming into the union are forwarded to the executive board, where decisions are made together.

 

VICE PRESIDENT

Will assist the President and assume full responsibilities upon the President’s absence.

 

RECORDING SECRETARY

Will record proceedings of all membership, Executive Board, and any other special meetings.  Will handle all administrative work pertaining to appeals, take care of all union correspondence, countersign all pay and expense vouchers, and keep the International UAW aware of changes in the contact or payroll of Local 730.

 

FINANCIAL SECRETARY

Is responsible for all Local Union finances.  He/she must countersign all checks, write all checks drawn on Local Union funds, and submit a report in writing every month at the regular meeting.  His job and responsibilities are vast and complicated; too in depth to write out here.  A complete job description is found in the UAW Constitution pages 79-80.

 

TRUSTEES

There are three Trustees and they have charge of supervising Local funds and property.  They arrange for semi-annual audits of Local Union money, equipment, and materials, and take care of the general upkeep of the Union Hall.

 

SERGEANT AT ARMS

Introduce new members and visitors, and help maintain order during the regular and contract meetings.

 

GUIDE

Maintains order and verifies membership qualification.

 

SHIFT REPRESENTATIVE

Are Members-at-Large and are each shift’s direct pipeline to the Executive Board.  They have a voice and vote on the Local Union’s Executive Board.

 

SKILLED TRADES DELEGATES

There are four Skilled Trades Delegates elected for a three year term.  Two are elected from the Tool and Die trades and two from Maintenance trades.  These elected Delegates represent the Skilled Trades’ membership on skilled trades’ issues at conferences where skilled trades’ resolutions are debated.  (Must be a Journeyman.)
