Chaplains Corner

March 2008

I walk into my chicken coop every day, and what looks like hundred’s of sparrows panic and try to escape.  They fly into the windows, walls, and into themselves as they try to get out.  Some have died in the attempt.

They don’t know that I don’t care that they are there.  I don’t even care if they eat the chicken food or drink their water.  It’s hard to find food and water with everything frozen and covered with snow.

Even if I could speak sparrows, the sight of me sends them into panic.  The only way I could let them know is become a sparrow.

Still, I am not sure they would believe me.  What man would want to become a sparrow?  God had the same problem.  Who would believe that God would become a man and want to live with us and tell us how much he loved us.  He loved us so much, that he was willing to die for us so we could live with him forever.

I don’t believe that a sparrow would believe that a man would die so they could live in his house.  I don’t even let the chickens come in my house.  Why would God want us to live with him?

To him, we must seem like a bunch of dirty sparrows.  The bible tells us that God loved us.  There are a few of us that would give our life up for another.  But there are some who have done just that.

What parent would not give their life for their child?  Love is so giving, that the one you love becomes so important that you will place their needs before your own.  It is the same for the creator with his created.  He loves us.  Have a wonderful Easter.

In your service,

David Karel
