June 2007

In Motown

Our Chairman and President are in Detroit for a meeting today, so Rocky and myself will be giving the reports which will be okayed by them.

It’s Miller Time

Brothers and Sisters, there is an old saying “Be careful what you ask for, you just might get it”.  Saying that, we have ourselves a new plant manager.  His name is Max Miller, and he came from Flint Metal Fab.  His agenda is pretty much the same as DeLuca has told us.  But we have someone now that tells us he will be honest with us.  The committee expects to not always agree with management, but when we agree to something with management, we expect them to live up to it, which they have not always done.  We have been told by Flint  and people that have worked with Max that he will be honest with us, even though he might be telling us something we don’t want to hear.  The first question I asked Max after he said he would be honest with this committee, “Are you here to shut us down or take us to the next level?”  He told the committee he was here to take us to the next level!  Expect him to come up to you and introduce himself to you as a person.  But remember, he will not be here full time until after the shutdown.

Handicap Parking

The parking should be back to where it is suppose to be.  It’s hard for the union to understand why management wanted to mess with the handicap in the first place.  I fully believe we got some help behind the scenes from the new plant manager.  Anyway, the union is sorry it happened and management took so long to address it.

Shutdown

The numbers are coming in and we still have a couple of meetings to go, but it looks like heavy on Maintenance and the second week some Tech Support in the woods.  The union is working with management to try to do the jobs that must be done so we can get more people out of here during the shutdown.  The union hopes everyone has a safe and happy time off that wants it off.

 Redistricting

Management has informed us because of the numbers they are asking for two districts on July 30.  What that means is we will combine two different districts and the non- shop committeeperson will go back to the floor.  This is very hard for us to see our committee people have to go, but the national agreement dictates by the number of people we have as to how many committee people we have.

The fair way to do it is to combine the districts with less people, because we can explain that to the membership, which is the highest governing body.  The numbers on July 30 will dictate who goes and who stays.  To the people who do go, a job well done!

  Our Flag

When I walk out the door, and I see the flag half way down, it makes me very sad because someone lost their life for this country.  Just for today, we say thank you to all of our soldiers for what they are doing or what they gave for freedom!

 Congratulations Are In Order

Congratulations to Mike Carlson who has been chosen as UAW Committeeperson of the month!

 In solidarity,

Louie Schreuder
