Summer Help
A requisition has
been submitted for approval of up to 80 people. Referrals will be handed
out on Wednesday, April 18, and sent to employees on sick leave or layoff,
and have to be returned no later than Friday, April 27 at
3:30 p.m. Then 180
names will be selected for testing on Saturday, May 19. Retesting will be
on Saturday, June 9. Management still has not determined whether they
will need anyone or not, but they want to be prepared just in case.
Local Demands
There were over 200
demands submitted, which the committee went over and removed demands that
were duplicates, which ones pertained to or conflicted with the National
Agreement, and recommended against demands where one classification was
trying to take work away from another classification.
Our meeting to go
over the demands with the membership is scheduled for
Sunday, April 29,
2007 at the union hall located at 3852 Buchanan Ave SW. This meeting will
start at 1:00 p.m. and continue until finished.
Loose Scrap
Management has
notified the union of their plans to go to loose scrap. They were talking
of this in the past and determined it was more profitable to continue to
bale it, and they even brought in a baler from Flint. Now they have
changed their mind again.

The union has
expressed their concern that there are more negatives than positives in
doing this. As we work out the details with management, we will
communicate those with the membership.
Appointments
Barb and I finished
conducting interviews for the Co-Suggestion Coordinator last Thursday and
will conduct interviews for second shift alternate Benefit Rep next week.
We will then make the selections and forward them to the International for
approval.
Thank You
I would also like
to thank the membership for sending Barb, Greg Golembiewski, Rocky Love,
and myself to the Special Convention on Collective Bargaining in
Detroit
on March 27-28. It was very well attended, and there were quite a few
different speakers including Governor Granholm, Mayor of Detroit Kwame
Kilpatrick, as well as, the Governor of Ohio.
In solidarity,
