  Standing  Committee Reports

Chairman’s Report by Steve Rop, Chairman

Committee Members:  Russ Bolthouse, Mike Carlson,

Nancy Fopma, John Graver, Marty Green, and Doug Lail

September 2008

First Shift Benefit Rep

Greg and myself have concluded the interviews for the Benefit Rep position and have forwarded three names to the regional office for approval, then on to Solidarity House for approval from UAW Vice President Cal Rapson.

2nd Shift Alternate Health and Safety Rep

We also had a posting for this position that ended last Friday at 12 noon.  We are now in the process of setting up interviews for the eight people that applied for this position.

Competitive Operating Agreement

Update (COA)

Recently on September 10, the Shop Committee distributed a letter explaining what we did and why.  This is not the best of times right now, and we are faced with challenges unlike any in the past.  We are in a fight for survival and are being pitted against other stand alone stamping plants.

It would have been easy to just tell management to get screwed, but there are a lot of members who don’t have in their time to retire.  As a committee, we would like to give the members that don’t have enough time an opportunity to retire from the Grand Rapids Metal Plant.

What we discussed and agreed to was forwarded to the International for approval.
