Chairman’s Report by Steve Rop, Chairman

Committee Members:  Rick Bode, Russ Bolthouse, Mike Carlson,

September 2006

THROUGHPUT

As many of you know, throughput in the plant is down from a goal that management set earlier this year.  There are many reasons for this, but the top reason is management here has to answer to the corporation why.

So as usual, there is a push from the top down to do more with less at the expense of the membership.  This might be part of the reason why our safety record is in the toilet also.

STILL A UNION SHOP

It is up to me and the committee to make management realize, along with the membership’s help, that this is still a union shop and that our members will be treated as such in accordance with our Local and National Agreements, Memorandum of Understandings, Health and Safety and Ergonomics guidelines.

CALL YOUR COMMITTEEPERSON

If you see, feel, or believe something isn’t right, attempt to resolve the issue with your supervisor, and if it can’t be worked out then use your resources.  Put in a call for your committeeperson.

Lately, the committee has been involved in more and more meetings, and as we get closer to negotiations, the alternate committee people will be responding to calls more often.

TRANSFERS/NEW MEMBERS

During this month, there will be 65 people transferring into the plant and the A-9 temps will be all done as of October 3.

In solidarity,
