Local Negotiations
We will get back to
our negotiations locally on January 17. There is still much to do yet. We
have to get thru:
·
Maintenance
·
TDO
·
Local
Demands
·
Grievances
·
And
once the core and non-core is determined, we will have to sort thru that.
New Attendance
Policy, Document 8
I did not have an
opportunity to explain the revised Attendance Policy at the first benefit
meeting held January 9, so I will make it part of my report at the union
meetings.
For those of you who
do not attend the membership meetings, ask your committeeperson, Louie, or
myself to explain it to you. It is a drastic change from the past, so I
don’t want any members to not understand it.
Layoffs
As of last week, we
had approximately 365 members on layoff. This week 81 members were called
back to work. Third shift will start up slowly next week, and more members
will be called back to man up that shift. I’m being told by management,
that we won’t run as many lines as in the past on third shift.

Special Attrition
Packages
GM has already rolled
out Phase I of these packages, and I am being told that Stamping will be
part of Phase II. The offers will be the same as they were in 2006. I
expect to get this information in the near future, and when I do, I will let
the membership know.
Safety
For those of you that
have been laid off for a while, I hope you enjoyed your time off. But as
you return from layoff, please take the time to acclimate yourself to your
surroundings. Also, if you see someone doing or attempting to do something
unsafe, be your brother’s keeper.
In solidarity,
Steve Rop
