  Standing  Committee Reports

Chairman’s Report by Steve Rop, Chairman

Louie Schreuder, Zone A/Recording Secretary

Committee Members:  Russ Bolthouse, Mike Carlson,

Nancy Fopma, Marty Green, Doug Lail, and Duane Sprague

December 2007

Layoffs

Currently we have 183 on layoff.  The plan is to lay off another 180 members the weeks of December 31 and January 7 because of volume reductions of 900 work in Pontiac, Fort Wayne, and Oshawa.  Some members will come back the week of January 14, but Moraine, Ohio will be down that week.

There will be a rollout by a Benefit Rep during Team meeting times for members getting laid off.  This is the best information I have at the present time.

New Attendance Policy Document 8

There will be two meetings given by the Benefit Reps and people from Blue Cross at the union hall on January 9.  I will take some of that meeting time to go over the Attendance Policy.

Key Six Meeting in Chicago

December 5, 6, and 7, Barb and I attended a meeting in Chicago that included Quality Network Reps, Plant Managers, and Personnel Directors from all of Stamping and Assembly.  Most of the plants are on hold at this time for local negotiations until the issue of core and non-core and what that means can be worked out at the highest levels.

Also, we were told that there will be another Special Attrition Program that will be retroactive back to October 1, 2007.  There was a good presentation on current and future GM vehicles.

Epsilon Project

The new work in Metal Assembly being installed is going along better than expected and should meet the timelines when assembled parts are due at the assembly plant in Fairfax.  Once again, when our Skilled Trades’ members are put to the task, they come through exceptionally.

 Holiday Period

Please remember this holiday season that whatever you are doing - like driving your car, cleaning snow off your roof, hanging lights, or whatever…. just remember to take two and be aware of your surroundings.

The committee and I would like to wish all our members a safe and happy holiday, (whether you are working or off).  And please remember our men and women serving in the armed forces that won’t have an opportunity to be with their families.

 In solidarity,

 Steve Rop
