Effective June 1, 2007

The responsibility for the recordkeeping of life insurance beneficiaries, both electronic and paper based, has been transferred to Metropolitan Life Insurance Company (Met Life).  This change applies to all salaried and hourly active and retired employees.  Employees and retirees can access the MetLife Beneficiary web site either of two ways:

1.      At the gmbenefits.com portal by clicking on the link “View, designate or update your life insurance beneficiary” or

2.      At https://mybenefits.metlife.com

Once employees/retirees enter the MetLife web site environment, they will be required to create a User Name and Password.  The instructions on the screen should be followed to register as a “First Time User”.

Employees and retirees should continue to call the GMBSC at 1(800) 489-4646 if they have questions regarding life insurance beneficiaries.  There will be a new prompt (Beneficiary Inquiries) added to the phone tree.  To access this service, the employee/retiree should:

·        Call the GMBSC at 1(800) 489-4646

·        Authenticate as directed.

·        Select “Health and Insurance” from the main menu.  They will then hear the following options from which to select:

1.      Healthcare

2.      Flexible Spending Account

3.      Beneficiary Inquiries (new option)

4.      Life Insurance
