Legal Services - Dual Plan Coverage

In past years, if a husband and wife were GM or Delphi employees or retirees, records showed imputed income for Legal Services that resulted in both parties being taxed for the same benefit.  The same is true for the surviving spouse of a former employee/retiree who remarried a GM or Delphi employee/retiree.  Both eligible parties are being taxed for the same benefit.  This has been remedied as a result of the 2003 negotiations.

If the above stated circumstances exist, one eligible participant of the plan may now declare coverage for both eligible parties.  This will result in both eligible parties still enjoying the same level of legal service coverage, but only one party will have imputed income on which they are taxed.

To obtain this benefit, notice of dual coverage from the tax paying party must be received no later than Friday, October 8, 2004

Call 1(800) 521-7818 extension 517

When you phone, you will be asked to provide the following information for both eligible parties:

1.     Name (employee, retiree, surviving spouse)

2.     Social Security Number

3.     Location of Employment

4.     Local Union Number
