Dependent Eligibility
Tax
time has triggered a lot of questions regarding dependent eligibility for
healthcare. GM guidelines are:
·
If you
can legally claim an exemption for the child under Section 151 IRC on your
federal income tax, or
·
If you
are legally responsible to provide healthcare because of a court order.
Then
the child is eligible for enrollment with corporation paid contributions.
If you are not able to claim your dependent, now is the time to take them
off your healthcare. To cancel your dependent call 1(800) 489-4646, and
they will assist you. Be cautious if you back date the cancellation; this
could result in money owed.
