Benefit Report

April 2008

Dependent Eligibility

Tax time has triggered a lot of questions regarding dependent eligibility for healthcare. GM guidelines are:

·        If you can legally claim an exemption for the child under Section 151 IRC on your federal income tax, or

·        If you are legally responsible to provide healthcare because of a court order.

Then the child is eligible for enrollment with corporation paid contributions.  If you are not able to claim your dependent, now is the time to take them off your healthcare.  To cancel your dependent call 1(800) 489-4646, and they will assist you.  Be cautious if you back date the cancellation; this could result in money owed.

Received a Medical Bill?  Your First Call -

The Special Attrition Program (SAP) sign up period has been extended to Thursday, May 22, 2008.  Make sure you turn form A & B into management to receive the incentive money, or sign your intent for Option 2, 3, or 4.  You must also see your Union Benefit Rep to order pension papers.

Credited Service Audit

Retiree’s - questions regarding your pension increase should be directed to the GMBSC at 1(800) 489-4646.

Life Insurance – Action Required

The hourly life insurance beneficiary solicitation project will be handled by MetLife.  The project will begin in March 2008, starting with the retiree population, followed at a later date by hourly employees.

The mailings will be staggered and a beneficiary form will be included.  Fill out the form and return.  Once you submit and update your beneficiaries, you will receive a written confirmation of the beneficiary change.  Make sure you take care of the ones you love.
