Benefit Bits

March 2006

Beneficiary Designation

Grant mentioned this in last months report, so it was ironic when we received a bulletin from GM this week noting the alarming number of claims that name an ex-spouse as beneficiary of record.  This of course denies payout of life insurance proceeds to current spouse or dependents that are liable for funeral costs, and also may depend on these proceeds for future living expenses. Bulletins are being posted in the plant as a reminder to update your records.  Retiree’s will be alerted in the next issue of GM Encore.

PSP

Excessive trading restrictions are being expanded effective April 1, 2006, to include the GM 1-2/3 Par Value Common Stock Fund and the Promark Funds, with the exception of the Promark Income Fund.

There are currently four restricted funds that participants can no longer invest in, which will be discontinued effective March 30, 2007.  These funds include:

·        DIRECTTV Group Common Stock Fund

·        News Corporation Non-Voting Common Stock Fund

·        Electronic Data Systems Corporation, and

·        Raytheon Company Common Stock Fund

This will allow participants time to transfer assets from these funds into other funds of choice prior to the deadline date.  If transfer is not completed by the deadline date, they will be moved to the Promark Income Fund.

HealthCare

For people covered by Traditional Care Network or Blue Preferred Plus PPO plans through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan, changes were made in the prescription drug program administered by Medco Health.  Patients taking drugs that are affected by these changes will be notified by mail in the month of March with directions as to procedures to follow to avoid problems.

People enrolled with Priority Health HMO are not affected by these changes.
