FIDELITY PENSION PROCESS

For active employees who are interested in applying for Pension Benefits, the process has changed somewhat now that Fidelity is administrating the Benefits Servicing Center for GM.  In order to insure that all details are in order and that Pension Benefits are paid in a timely manner, it is important to apply the following guidelines:

  1. Within 60 to 90 days prior to the retirement effective date, the employee or Benefit Representative can contact Fidelity at 1(800) 489-4646 and begin the process.  Details required are the employee’s social security number, date of birth, spouse’s name and date of birth if applicable.

  1. Assuming Fidelity has all the necessary data, a Retirement/Pension Modeling Statement should be mailed to you or the Benefit Representative within a two week period.  It is important to review all the details of the model to ensure information is correct.

  1. Forty-five days prior to your retirement date, Fidelity is contacted again with all of your retirement elections. Within seven working days, Fidelity will send a second packet containing final documents needing signatures from you and your Benefit Representative. You will also need to provide copies of your:
    1. Birth certificate
    2. Birth certificates for your spouse or beneficiary if applicable
    3. Marriage certificate
    4. Direct deposit information:     Name on Account

                                                      Routing Number

                                                      Account Number

Type of Account - Savings or Checking

  1. If all of the above steps are completed 30 days prior to your retirement date, you should receive your first pension check on the first day of the month of your retirement.

Benefit Administration for Healthcare, Disability, Life Insurance, Layoff Benefits, Pension, as well as, the 401k Personal Saving Plan are all handled at the GM Benefit & Service Center run by Fidelity.          www.401K.com.  Now, all benefit administration is done through one phone number at 1(800) 489-4646 and www.gmbenefits.com.

If accessing Fidelity by phone at 1(800) 489-4646, you will be prompted to go through a series of steps to access your benefits:

a.  Put in your social security number

b.  Put in your PIN number or say “Representative”

c.  Select the area you are concerned with.  For example:  Pension or Savings Plan

You will be directed to a Servicing Representative who will assist you.

If you have questions about your pension or any other benefit area, please contact your Benefit Plan Representative at 246-3450 or 1(800) 730-8292.
