2008 Scholarship Guidelines

 

General Guidelines

1.      There will be two (2) scholarships awarded at a maximum of $1000 each, (paid $500 each for two semesters).  (Not renewable; must apply every year.)  All books and fees required by the college will be included.

2.      Scholarship good for accredited colleges and universities in the U.S.  Trade schools must be pre-approved by the Scholarship Committee.  Applicant must show proof of admission at time of application and supply same for second semester.

3.      No more than one scholarship per family shall be awarded per year.

4.      Applicant must submit a transcript of their high school and college grades.

5.      The UAW Local 730 Scholarship Committee will report back to Local 730 each year the students selected.

6.      An article, up to 300 words per theme, must be submitted with the application and in your own words relating to the following themes: 

 

1.        If Michigan were to become a Right to Work state, how would it affect you? 

2.        How does the loss of manufacturing and industry affect health care in the United States, and what affects do unions have on this issue?

 

7.    All scholarships shall be selected anonymously by the Scholarship Committee.

8.    Applicants do not have to be a recent high school graduate.

9.    Applications may be picked up at the Local 730 Union Hall, Benefits Office, or Work Center.

10.  Scholarship to be awarded at the April Union Membership meeting.

11.  Winner to be notified as soon as possible.

 

To apply for a scholarship, students must meet the following criteria:

·        Applicant must be a child or grandchild of any active member or retiree of Local 730 in                                                                                               good standing.

·        Only one scholarship per student per year allowed.

·        Minimum grade point average of 2.5.

·        Applicant may enroll as a full or part time student, but preference will be given to full time student.

·        Transcript

 

Application Procedures

Students meeting the above criteria must complete the following steps:

·        Application must be completed and submitted no later than 4 p.m. Friday, April 4, 2008 to:
