In May 2009, the people of the Grand Rapids Metal Plant showed an inspiring sense of caring and generosity amidst tough times with massive layoffs and the plant closing. With half our normal number of employees working this year, the GRMP Team, led by captains Angie VanArnam and Nick Kassanos, raised a record amount of donations, $3024, for the March for Babies fundraiser on April 25. Some of our folks also participated in a three mile walk through the beautifully landscaped Farmers Insurance trails in Caledonia, enjoyed some KFC sandwiches, and relaxed outdoors while tapping their feet to the catchy folk tunes of local musician Lux Land. Our support gives hope to families of babies born too soon or sick. March of Dimes presented us with an Outstanding Team Award and sent us a thank you email stating, “We cannot thank you enough for all of your hard work to raise over $3,000 for the Grand Rapids March for Babies. The generosity and compassion of those working at your location is truly unmatched. Despite the climate of the plant closing, your team really showed how much they care about the community---and babies!”
